Dining in and around Cape Town

Fine food is accompanied by equally stellar regional wines. Gastronomy is an integral part of the Cape experience, whether in Cape Town proper or anywhere along this charmed region with its spectacular scenery. Cape Town, culinary anchor of South Africa, yields an extensive line-up of restaurants unrivaled anywhere else in the country.

Sun-splashed hotels along Cape Town’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront provide ultime civilized options for refreshment, from the Table Bay Hotel’s award-winning Atlantic Grill to the Cape Grace’s Bascule Bar and Wine Cellar with more than 420 whiskies.

At the foot of Table Mountain, the venerable Mount Nelson is a magnet for both fine evening dining and afternoon tea. Located in the Victoria Wharf shopping center at the V&A Waterfront, Baia Seafood Restaurant and Willoughby & Co. are both renowned for exquisite seafood. Also along the waterfront is Jack’s - celebrated for lobster.

Kloof Street is lined with dining options including the bistro-style Café Gainsborough and ethnic eateries like Saigon and Yindees. Constantia wine farms produce excellent reds and whites that will soften the connaisseur's palate. Restaurants of note include Constantia Uitsig, Groot Constantia, Steenberg and Buitenverwachting. Dishes such as venison, traditional Cape Mallay cuisine and Cape line, e.g. kingklip and snoek are all prepared to perfection by award-winning chefs.

Northeast of Cape Town is the Paarl region where Bosman’s is famed for three-course lunches, five-course dinners and award-winning wines. 96 Winery Road Restaurant, just outside Stellenbosch, showcases fresh local ingredients. Among several fine restaurants in the village of Franschboek, Le Quartier Francais provides a creative country ambiance and an extensive wine selection. On the Cape West Coast, Hilda’s Kitchen in Darling, set in an 1808 homestead, serves patrons either in the kitchen or in its courtyard.

Fancourt Spa and Wellness

When not on the course or out and about exploring nature's treasures, you can simply relax and revitalise in the award winning spa at Fancourt. Luxury goes hand in hand with world-class treatments, equipment and professionalism. The comprehensive range of treatments and programmes are in line with the best spas in the world and will transfer you to a care-free world.

Garden Route Beaches

You also have a vast number of unspoilt, sun-drenched beaches to choose from, all within a short drive from Fancourt. The Garden Route's coastline is also a famous destination for whale watchers across the globe. Witness these gracious giants from land or by sea on an adventure packed ocean safari. The best beaches are located around Wilderness, a mere 15 minutes drive from Fancourt.

Wine and Dine around Fancourt

Four gourmet restaurants and 3 cafés offer a variety of dining experiences and bear testimony to Fancourt's reputation as purveyors of fine cuisine. From La Cantina's authentic Italian fare and the freshly caught dishes of Le Pêcheur to the Morning Glory's health meals, the modern African cuisine of Sansibar and Bramble Lodge's selected dinner menu of locally-sourced produce, Fancourt's cuisine is a gourmet's delight!

Nearby towns of George, Knysna and Mossel Bay have countless restaurants to choose from. Catering for every taste, however, a visit to the region's famous seafood restarants comes highly recommended.

Kruger National Park Experience

As one of Africa's top three safari destinations, the Kruger National Park offers visitors the iconic African safari - a dramatic production rich in lion prides, elephant herds and thousands of other animals, played out against shifting backdrops of savannah, forest, river and mountain.

Six rivers feed the park - an area that encompasses an astonishing 16 vegetation zones including 1980 plant species and 300 tree species. The diversity of its flora is matched by an equally dazzling variety of mammalian, avian, reptilian and amphibian species.

507 bird and 147 mammal species reside in The Kruger, while recent surveys substantiate the presence of 7000 elephants, 2000 lions and 400 endangered African Wild Dogs (Lycaon pictus).

Travellers arrive from all over the world for a taste of the Kruger National Park safari experience - a safari holiday characterised by unspoilt wilderness, a huge density and diversity of animals, and private luxury Kruger Park accommodation that rivals, and often surpasses, the world's best hotels.
