Dining in and around Cape Town

Fine food is accompanied by equally stellar regional wines. Gastronomy is an integral part of the Cape experience, whether in Cape Town proper or anywhere along this charmed region with its spectacular scenery. Cape Town, culinary anchor of South Africa, yields an extensive line-up of restaurants unrivaled anywhere else in the country.

Sun-splashed hotels along Cape Town’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront provide ultime civilized options for refreshment, from the Table Bay Hotel’s award-winning Atlantic Grill to the Cape Grace’s Bascule Bar and Wine Cellar with more than 420 whiskies.

At the foot of Table Mountain, the venerable Mount Nelson is a magnet for both fine evening dining and afternoon tea. Located in the Victoria Wharf shopping center at the V&A Waterfront, Baia Seafood Restaurant and Willoughby & Co. are both renowned for exquisite seafood. Also along the waterfront is Jack’s - celebrated for lobster.

Kloof Street is lined with dining options including the bistro-style Café Gainsborough and ethnic eateries like Saigon and Yindees. Constantia wine farms produce excellent reds and whites that will soften the connaisseur's palate. Restaurants of note include Constantia Uitsig, Groot Constantia, Steenberg and Buitenverwachting. Dishes such as venison, traditional Cape Mallay cuisine and Cape line, e.g. kingklip and snoek are all prepared to perfection by award-winning chefs.

Northeast of Cape Town is the Paarl region where Bosman’s is famed for three-course lunches, five-course dinners and award-winning wines. 96 Winery Road Restaurant, just outside Stellenbosch, showcases fresh local ingredients. Among several fine restaurants in the village of Franschboek, Le Quartier Francais provides a creative country ambiance and an extensive wine selection. On the Cape West Coast, Hilda’s Kitchen in Darling, set in an 1808 homestead, serves patrons either in the kitchen or in its courtyard.

This arena is also one of South Africa's favourite venues for beauty pageants and stage productions.

The Royal Livingstone and Victoria Falls Experience

The 5 star hotel consists of a series of 17 colonial-style buildings, with deep verandas, set amidst indigenous trees and plants. The main hotel is a sequence of thatch-roofed buildings, most African in their influence, and incorporates the lounge, restaurant and bar. A classic swimming pool visually links the waters of the river with the terraces of the hotel, with a sweeping timber deck planted in the swirling water of the Zambezi.

Enjoy the peace and tranquility of the mighty Zambezi River while having a luxurious outdoor body massage or sit back and enjoy the healing power of a magnificent foot massage while relaxing next to the swimming pool.

The variety of food served in the stylish restaurants of the Royal Livingstone is inspired by the mixed influences of Africa and the results are a culinary exploration garnered from the many different cultures that prevail in this diverse and delightful continent. In designing the menus the Chefs were struck by the notion that David Livingstone had, in his explorations of Africa, experienced the widest diversity of food the continent had to offer.

Discover the majesty of the Victoria Falls aboard a helicopter, an adventure you will never forget (optional extra). The scenic beauty is dramatic as the helicopter dips and soars, bringing earth rushing to the fore and alternatively the sky to your fingertips.
